Leading name in heating and renewables Dimplex's new Quantum Energy System is the complete low carbon, future-proofed electric heating system, and Darwin, the clever Dimplex chameleon, explains the benefits of the Quantum space heater in a new video.
The Quantum ultra-efficient electric heater is a unique, fully electronic highly controllable ‘smart' energy storage appliance. Its advanced insulation allows the appliance to retain over 50% of heat 24 hours after the initial charge, which can save up to 25% on running costs, compared with conventional electric static storage heating systems. This high level of energy retention means that in a correctly-sized system, the bulk of the electricity required can be drawn during off-peak periods to store as heat, costing as little as 6.09p per unit, compared with around 14p per unit for peak rate electricity. Advanced controls that respond to weather conditions and usage patterns help to keep energy use - and running costs - to a minimum.
The Quantum heater combines with the Quantum cylinder, a class-leading self-learning adaptive smart energy storage water vessel, and the Quantum Hub, an intelligent and completely automatic system manager, in the Quantum Energy System. This high efficiency, ‘smart' space and water heating system is able to keep up with changes in how our power is generated as the low carbon electricity grid evolves.
The system has great significance for the ‘bigger energy picture'. Developed in collaboration with SSE, the system has the potential to help smooth out peaks in electricity demand on a national scale, allowing better use of off-peak generation, and meaning that energy from intermittent renewable sources, such as wind, can be better harnessed and stored for when it's required.
