ABB has launched an expanded process industry training programme for 2018/19 – which will boost the professional development of over 500 UK senior managers, professional engineers and technicians employed in high hazard industries during the year.
Next year’s programme sees the addition of two new courses: Construction, Design and Management (CDM) Awareness; and Process Safety Deep Dive Auditing.
The CDM half-day course aims to raise awareness and give an overview of the background, objectives and requirements of the CDM Regulations, with an emphasis on the recent changes.
The Process Safety Deep Dive Auditing one-day course shows how to plan, prepare and conduct deep dive audits and assessments on Major Accident Hazards (MAHs) using ABB’s proven techniques and methodology.
ABB provides a variety of training options for companies and individuals aimed at different levels of complexity from raising awareness of issues to advanced technical courses. Training opportunities include open courses which anyone in industry can attend, bespoke on-site training, seminars, webinars and lunchtime forums.
Kym Merryweather, ABB’s training course manager, said: “Sessions are typically designed to be standalone; however, they can be combined to form a structured development programme, which is not only ideal for young engineers just beginning their career but also meets the needs of those individuals who have worked in industry for a number of years and want to develop further or update their knowledge. ABB works hard to reflect industry requirements, whether these are due to changes in legislation, industry best practice or responses to accidents and incidents. Having close working relationships with many of the Institutions and Industry bodies that consult on legislation means courses can be tailored accordingly.
The demand for our training is growing as we continually expand our offering and make access to it as flexible as possible. For example, we are in the process of developing e-learning packages to enable busy engineers and technicians to attend our training courses when it best suits them,” adds Merryweather.
The training programmes cover 26 different subject areas that are presented by experienced engineers and specialist consultants working in a broad range of industries.
The company’s ten most popular courses are:
1. Pressure Relief
2. Essentials of Pressure Systems
3. Area Classification
4. Shutdown, Turnaround and Outages Management
5. An Engineers’ Guide to DSEAR
6. Effective Alarm Management
7. Hazard Study Leaders
8. IEC 61508/61511 & SIL Determination
9. PSM Best Practice
10. Design and Operation of Pressure Systems
