BIM Level 2 Online Portal Goes Live

The ‘official’ home of BIM Level 2 standards and guidance went live this week to coincide with the government’s mandate to use BIM on projects procured by central government departments.

Hosted by BSI in partnership with the BIM Task Group, the site will build over the coming weeks and months to present all of the final documents, tools and guidance, starting with free-to-download standards that are available now.

BSI promises regular updates through to the autumn, with national and international guides and case studies on the way.

‘BIM will become a required UK standard across the entire built environment and our message to all stakeholders is join us and grasp this incredible opportunity to reduce cost and waste while driving productivity and competitiveness, BIM Task Group chairman Mark Bew said this week.

The government claims that the seven large spending departments that will initially implement the mandate are on target to issue Employer Information Requirements (EIRs) for BIM Level 2 on their projects from this week, although some projects procured over the past 12 months have already been procured to meet the required BIM standard.
