Aico, one of the UK’s leading suppliers of domestic mains powered Fire and Carbon Monoxide (CO) alarms, is pleased to announce the launch of the third edition of its highly popular Electrical Contractors Handybook - the industry’s must have guide to domestic smoke alarm installation.
Since the launch of the Handybook in 2008, an incredible 45,000 copies have been distributed nationwide and the pocket-sized book is regarded by many contractors as essential reading / reference material in regards to choosing, installing, testing and maintaining Smoke and CO alarms.
This latest edition has been updated for BS 5839-6:2013 (the standard for domestic smoke alarm installations), features new siting and alarm selection guidance, as well as the array of new products launched by Aico.
The Electrical Contractors Handybook has also been redesigned with a fresh, modern look and restructured to make it even easier to use than before. A new opening chapter - ‘Before You Start’ – provides invaluable advice on aspects to consider before an installation, such as different sensor options and their suitability for areas within a property and types of alarm interconnection in the form of hard wiring and RadioLINK wireless interconnection. The follow on chapter – ‘What to Fit’ – goes on to explain the different products offered by Aico and the solutions they provide. A ‘System Set Up’ section has been incorporated, split into ‘How to House Code’ and ‘How to Test’ alarms, providing easy to follow instructions and advice.
The Alarm Selector section has also been completely redesigned to feature Aico’s modern new house graphic which is being used across its suite of sales and marketing material. The graphic provides a clear means of showing which Aico products are suited to which rooms and which property types.
Aico’s full product range is covered in the Electrical Contractors Handybook, including the Ei2110 Multi-Sensor, the Ei160RC and new Ei140RC Series alarms, CO alarms and its range of accessories that make for more flexible, sophisticated alarms systems. These include the new Ei450 Alarm Controller, which allows residents to simply test and silence all the alarms on the system and quickly identify and locate the exact unit which has triggered the system (visually identifying if the source is a fire or CO leak), all from one convenient location.
The Firecap section on passive or intumescent fire stopping products has also been revised with new gaskets and trunking sleeve products, with a ‘what to fit where’ guide incorporated.
As with previous Aico Electrical Contractors Handybooks, this latest edition is colour coded into different sections covering all you need to know about choosing, installing, testing and maintaining smoke and CO alarms. It features simple, clear diagrams for quick reference, checklists, dos and don’ts, frequently asked questions and revealing fire statistics.
The Electrical Contractors Handybook can be requested through Aico’s website – www.aico.co.uk – as can books from Aico’s ‘Expert’ series of literature. These include Application Expert which provides alarm solutions for a variety of different applications and RadioLINK Expert dedicated to Aico’s RadioLINK Professional wireless alarm interconnection technology.
