CP Electronics’ New Cold Storage and Refrigeration PIRs Allows for Energy Savings at -30°C

These areas normally have uncontrolled lighting resulting in expensive use of energy. Following rigorous testing in climatic chambers and on-site, the new Minus30 range of cold storage and refrigeration PIR detectors from CP Electronics operate and perform at aggressive -30°C temperatures. These detectors are unique to the market by operating at such low temperatures and opens the door for improved energy efficiency in many cold chain operations that had previously left lighting on permanently.

The Minus30 cold storage and refrigeration detectors are able to switch or dim both fluorescent and LED lighting in response to occupancy. This enables the lighting in unoccupied areas such as aisles between racking to be either switched off completely, or dimmed to a lower light output so that less energy is consumed. As soon as occupancy is detected, in the form of a person or vehicle, the lighting can be immediately switched back to 100% light output.  Following field testing, the Minus30 EBDHS-LT30 detectors can detect at a range of up to 40m at 15m mounting height.

As well as reducing lighting energy consumption, the cold storage detectors can reduce the burning hours of the lighting, thereby extending lamp life. In addition, there is a potential for considerable cost savings on maintenance, as replacing the fluorescent tubes typically involves working at height, with associated disruption to everyday operations.

CP’s cold storage and refrigeration PIR detectors interact directly with the lighting, without the need of complex control systems and are fully programmable via an infrared handset for quick and easy set up.
