Training Provider - JMI Earthing Print E-mail
Thursday, 10 September 2009 10:02

Like any responsible organization, JMI places the highest premium on the competency of staff. In order to assist other companies actualise the same ambition, JMI has developed and delivers a range of training courses to ensure your representatives are aware of the issues surrounding their work.

JMI training staff will arrange a suitable venue for training as part of the service, or for your convenience, will travel to your organization’s premises to deliver the training in familiar surroundings to your staff.

All attendees on JMI training courses are presented with a certificate of attendance, for the purposes of training records and personal development.

Current training initiatives have focused upon:

■ The testing of lightning protection systems, earthing systems and rail stray current collection systems
■ The various theories and methodologies of conducting soil resistivity surveys
■ Quality management
■ Environmental management
■ Bespoke courses specified by our clients

Lightning protection

Lightning Protection Systems Design
JMI usually work from the architectural drawings of the site requiring a system. After evaluating any existing systems for compliance with the applicable industrial standards the JMI technical department produce full architectural drawings and schematics indicating a suitable, practical solution.

All drawings are produced in the latest edition of AutoCAD and come accompanied with a design specification and a bill of materials.

Pending changes to lightning protection system standards
There are currently two standards with overlapping authority. BS 6651:1999 was determined to require substantial review, the result of which was BS EN 62305:2006. BS 6651:1999 will become obsolete in August of 2008, whereupon the demands of BS EN 62305:2006 are solely applicable. There remains confusion in some sections of the industry with regards to the new standards requirements, however JMI have endorsed it and have ensured that its operating processes will fully comply and can already accommodate any client wishing to do so in advance.

Earthing/Grounding

Soil Resistivity Survey
Designs usually begin with a detailed site survey, which requires JMI engineers visiting a site to carry out a range of tests. Soil resistivity tests can be undertaken using several methodologies, the most common, and often the most pragmatic, is the Wenner Method. Soil samples are frequently taken to establish the acidity of the ground, which informs the selection of the most suitable installation materials, thus extending the lifetime of the earthing/grounding system.

Once all site data has been collected a detailed design is constructed using the latest computer aided design software CDEGS (Current Distribution, Electromagnetic Fields, Grounding and Soil Structure Analysis). We provide a safe, cost effective solution that complies with all relevant standards and codes of practice.

A written report is provided detailing system layout, installation specification, soil resistivity and acidity levels, theoretical earth system resistance, ground potential rise, supporting graphs indicating touch, step and transferred voltage potentials in and around the site

Quality and Management system consultancy

The demands upon businesses are constantly changing, and astute businesses are actively seeking to continually improve. The installation of a new management system is focused upon specific concerns, or elements of an organization.

JMI management consultants are all qualified lead auditors in both quality management systems and environmental management systems (see the standards section) and consequently understand how to make the most of your organization.
