Nigel Harvey of Recolight Wins Lux Person of the Year

Last night was the annual Lux Awards 2012. I was proud and honoured to be named Lux Person of the Year. Thank you to those who nominated me and to the judges who chose me.

The glittering award ceremony took place at the Natural History Museum with 16 awards announced. Lux Awards is the highlight of the annual Lux Live exhibition which took place at Earls Court. Organised by the Lighting Industry Association and Lux magazine, Lux Live brings together major lighting users and infrastructure providers and public sector with lighting professionals.

This Award really represents what the Recolight team has achieved since 2005: over 125million lamps recycled; a third of a tonne of mercury prevented from entering landfill and increased awareness of low-energy light bulb recycling though schemes such as the Big Light Project.

Recycling awareness
This recognition shows Recolight is on the right track, but there’s still more to do.

Further awareness raising of the need to recycle low-energy light bulbs, so that they don’t end up in the normal waste, is a top priority. At the Lux Live event we have seen the vast array of exciting new technologies which are emerging. We also need to ensure we keep up with these changes and work with companies to ensure recycling is always a top priority.
