TE Connectivity (TE), formerly Tyco Electronics, is pleased to announce the launch of its newest cable identification marker: this durable heat-shrinkable wrap-around cable marker is designed to provide permanent marker identification ensuring that items do not have to be remarked in their lifetime.

The innovative wrap-around cable marker is the latest in a wide range of TE cable identification systems. Intended for post termination applications and retrofit, it can be applied at any stage of the build process. Easy-to-use, the wrap-around marker is ideal for small and large diameter cables, as well as for the identification of harnesses, hoses and pipes.

Marked resilience
Resilient and durable, harsh and industrial environments are not a problem for this product. The marker is made from flexible materials and when heated with a heat gun the material shrinks and the hot melt adheres to provide a permanent bond. The marker thus forms a snug fit around the cable so that the product is permanently marked.

This means that despite daily hazards such as mechanical abrasion and exposure to fluids, the marking is kept intact. TE Connectivity has aimed to provide a product which breaks with convention: most wrap-around markers tend to come in the form of labels. These often crack or peel off over time and are simply not robust enough for the demands made on them.

This post termination marker can be used for upgrades or retrofit technologies on planes or trains. It can also be used to retrofit systems if an error has been made in the initial markings. In industries such as aerospace, defense, marine and railway and mass transit, speed and safety are of the essence: customers working with materials in such industries do not have time to undertake the labour-intense process of having to disconnect connectors to apply a new heat-shrinkable sleeve to cables, for example.

With this latest cable identification marker, the customer can now leave the connector in place and simply retrofit the cable using the new heat-shrinkable wrap-around marker. This not only saves time and resources, but also increases electrical safety as disconnection does not need to take place.

In order to suit the varying demands of customers, the marker is supplied on rolls of 100 feet (30.5 meters) and can be printed and cut according to the length required. Adhering to industry standards, the heat-shrinkable wrap-around marker for cable identification is in accordance with SAE-AS 5942
