More than 3,000m of PROFILA data trunking has been installed for Cat 6 data, power, and AV cabling. It has been supplied by REHAU with specially extruded grey lids which comply with the requirements of Part M of the Building Regulations guiding use by the visually impaired.
Striking ‘break out’ area locations in the college have been fitted with REHAU’s new Curved Trunking option.
The focal point of both college buildings is a glazed, three storey Rotunda building with a 15m diameter glazed dome roof. Within the Rotundas are a series of smaller circular structures which are being used as break out study areas and as a cafeteria.
These presented a challenge for conventional straight trunking systems, however REHAU was able to supply curved sections of its PROFILA data system which fitted the circular structures precisely.
The installation was carried out by electrical contractors Smith Group, working on behalf of design and build contractors BAM Construct UK. Technical support was provided by the team at REHAU’s regional office in Manchester and head office in Ross-on-Wye, Herefordshire.
REHAU has a significant reputation in the education sector for supplying a wide range of building products including windows and doors, underfloor heating and renewable energy solutions. Cable management systems have been installed in many schools, colleges and universities including Burnley College, Suffolk College, Mid Kent College and London Metropolitan University.
REHAU anticipates that its latest curved trunking solution for Bolton College will be an interesting application for consultants and contractors to consider in future projects.
