Wales’ largest department store, John Lewis in Cardiff, has been equipped with FP200 Gold cable from Prysmian. The new shop, which opened in September 2009, has had more than 20,000 metres of Prysmian’s FP200 Gold cable installed in the fire alarm loops. FP200 Gold was also used in a network cabling capacity.
Electrical contractor Crown House Technologies carried out the work over a period of 11 months during 2009. Ian Horton, Electrical Technician at Crown House Technologies said: “I like working with FP200 Gold for a number of reasons. Firstly, I find that the cable is dressable yet flexible and therefore keeps a straight line when installed on surfaces. There is no festooning which can affect other more flexible cables when surface fixed. Secondly, there are no awkward tapes to remove with FP200 Gold, making installation much faster.”
FP200 Gold is approved to BSEN50200 PH30 and additionally the 30 minute survival time of Annex E for the “standard” requirement of BS5839-1 for fire alarm systems and BS5839-8 for voice alarm systems, and to BSEN50200 PH60 for the requirement of BS5266-1 for emergency lighting. Furthermore, FP200 Gold cables use the unique Insudite insulation, which is damage resistant and not subject to nicking associated with other products.
The 280,000 sq ft John Lewis shop is the principal anchor for the landmark St David’s development in Cardiff City centre. The retail-led mixed use scheme also includes 100 new stores, 300 luxury roof top apartments and enhanced public spaces, designed to establish Cardiff as a top European retail destination.
