Speclialist electric heating manufacturer Intelli Heat has welcomed the government’s newly launched Boiler Scrappage Scheme – and called for a similar programme to be introduced for inefficient electric heating products.
The Boiler Scrappage Scheme was launched in January, offering those who qualify as much as £400 towards a new high efficiency boiler. Up to 125,000 households will benefit from the initiative, cutting carbon emissions by 140,000 tonnes per year, according to government figures.
And while Intelli Heat managing director Salvatore Cirasuolo believes it is a worthwhile programme, he says much could also be achieved by extending it to inefficient electric heating systems.
“We believe that direct acting heating products are the future of electric heating,” said Mr Cirasuolo. “A similar scrappage scheme introduced, for example for antiquated storage heaters, would produce significant and quick savings and help homeowners, private landlords and social housing organisations upgrade their systems and provide more energy efficient and cost effective heating solutions without spending vast amounts of money.”
Intelli Heat is well-placed to comment on the benefits of ‘direct acting’ heating products given its broad portfolio of electric heating solutions. Every one of its radiators – from standard models to the NEEDO designer range – utilise thermo dynamic fluid to warm up quickly and retain their heat. They can also be individually controlled, allowing domestic and commercial premises to zone heating requirements. Not only does this meet the requirements of the Building Regulations, it allows users to manage and minimise power bills.
In addition Intelli Heat, working with its sister company IntellyGreen, can offer full energy management solutions with the potential to closely monitor and reduce fuel bills by a further 25% and manage devices remotely via the internet or PC. Its latest innovation, ZoneRay, can be retrofitted to existing electric heating systems to reduce running costs by up to a quarter.
“If you can monitor energy consumption you can reduce it,” said Mr Cirasuolo. “Our customers cherry pick which of our radiators and energy management solutions best suit their requirements. Clients range from small domestic installations of our standard, but highly efficient electric radiators, to more complex commercial installations utilising all of our services. All our customers have one thing in common – they want a modern electric heating system that costs less to run,” added Mr Cirasuolo. “The fact that they are also the best and most responsive solutions available are added bonuses!”
