Harvard MD takes part in Clipper 11-12 Race

The managing director of Harvard Engineering, John McDonnell, recently set off to take part in Leg 8 of the Clipper 11-12 Round the World Yacht Race, from New York to Southampton on the Geraldton Western Australia yacht.

Having set off from New York on the 7th June, John first sailed to Halifax in Nova Scotia, Canada, before setting off on the 15th June to race across the Atlantic Ocean to Derry-Londonderry in Northern Ireland. With John onboard the Geraldton Western Australia will then make the trip to Dan Helder in the Netherlands, before finishing in Southampton on 22nd July. By the time he finishes, John will have travelled around 3,750 miles.

Before leaving, John commented, “I am absolutely thrilled to be taking part in the Clipper 11-12 Round the World Yacht Race. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity and I am looking forward to the great experience.”

John started Harvard Engineering from his kitchen table in 1993. The company has grown to become a world leader in the design and development of LED drivers and control products for the lighting industry, including the innovative LeafNut monitoring and control system for street lighting.

The Geraldton Western Australia yacht is currently in seventh place on the overall leader board after finishing seventh in Race 13, the first of Leg 8.
