New Technical Specification Guide for Prefabricated Wiring Systems

Hager has introduced a free technical specification guide for prefabricated wiring systems covering the requirements of BS8488:2009+A1:2010

Prefabricated wiring systems may be referred to in generic terms as: “modular wiring” or “plug and play”. However, the key question for any prefabricated wiring system is, does it comply with the appropriate safety requirements as a complete system?

The guide expands upon some of the key requirements when specifying prefabricated wiring systems, such as; system safety standards and achieving conformity with BS 7671 (Wiring Regulations).

BS 7671 recognises equipment complying with an appropriate British Standard or Harmonised Standard without further qualification. This approach means that the person responsible for specifying the prefabricated wiring system must, identify the “appropriate” standard.

BS8488:2009+A1:2010 specifies safety requirements, together with associated tests, for prefabricated wiring systems incorporating installation couplers conforming to BS EN 61535.
