electrical industry news,e-lec.org A PRESTIGIOUS cinema in the new White City Westfield complex is using specialist fire performance cable from AEI Cables for its fire and voice alarm systems.
The systems are being linked using AEI’s Firetec Standard cabling to ensure consistency of supply in the event of a real fire.
The showcase cinema is also using AEI Firetec Enhanced cabling for higher end fire performance systems in its disabled refuge system to enable a safe exit route should it ever be needed for disabled people.
Installation of the cable was by Solid State Security of Parbold, near Wigan, and distribution was managed by Edmundson Electrical Ltd, Wigan.
The Vue cinema features a 14 screen cinema including five 3-D-enabled screens, with a seating capacity of almost 3,000.
The development was built by Westfield Construction, the developer's own construction arm and was delivered on schedule. The project took five years to build, employing 8,000 people.
There were also considerable precautions needed due to the expectation of finding unexploded bombs from raids on a local munitions factory during the World War II blitz.
Alan Bradbury, regional sales manager for AEI Cables, said: “These types of installations in large public buildings cannot compromise on the adherence to safety and quality of products and materials. especially where there are large numbers of people moving about.”
