Carmel (North) has completed its first major Sainsbury’s development, with the Mechanical and Electrical fit out of a new 25,000 sq/ft supermarket in Wombourne, near Wolverhampton.
Working in partnership with Sainsbury’s Centre of Engineering, Carmel (North) has designed and installed a full range of M&E services, from ventilation, heating and cooling to lighting, fire alarms and data/telecoms systems. The new store, which includes a restaurant, washroom facilities, staff areas, bulk stock, cash office and staff canteen, also incorporates state of the art technology, together with the latest environmental and energy saving initiatives, which are increasingly a feature of M&E services provided by Carmel (North).
The Wombourne store includes: * Combined heating and ventilation via gas fired combined main air handling unit and boiler packaged (pre-assembled) plant room, with distribution via rationalised ventilation ductwork throughout the sales area to keep the look and feel of the store ceiling space to a maximum * Energy-efficient lighting, including dimmable continuous fluorescents * Remotely controlled air conditioning heating and cooling * Rainwater harvested for all washrooms, which include waterless urinals * Photo cell lighting throughout non sales areas
The new store opened in 2010 following an intensive 12-week programme which was only achievable by working closely with the main contractor on the careful planning and programming of the various elements of the installation process.
Chris Clarke, Managing Director of Carmel (North), said: “We are proud to have been involved in the design, development and installation of the new Sainsbury’s store, and we are particularly delighted with the success of the close working relationship we have developed with Sainsbury’s Centre of Engineering”.
