Plessey Wins ‘Modular LED Light Engine’ Category At Sapphire Awards 2017

sapphire awardsPlessey, a leading developer of award-winning LED technologies and manufacturer of solid state lighting products, announced that it has won the prestigious Sapphire Award for ‘Modular LED Light Engine’ for its OrionTM LED Beam Forming module.

The annual Sapphire Awards gala, in association with LEDs Magazine, was held at the Strategies in Light and The LED Show 2017 at the City National Grove of Anaheim, California held on 1 March. The Sapphire Awards focus on the LED based solid-state lighting (SSL) market from an enabling-technology and elegance-of-design perspective to recognise true technology stars.

The successful win of ‘Modular LED Light Engine’ comes as Plessey extended its range of ultra-slim OrionTM LED modules based on its Stellar™ beam forming technology at Europe’s biggest annual lighting event, LuxLive in November 2016, with new beam angles opening the technology to a wider range of applications in industrial and architectural lighting design.

The recently launched PLWS3000 25° FWHM beam angle module has now been joined by modules with 15° and 50° beam angles. All modules in the family share a common 82mm diameter, allowing lighting designers to simply and easily substitute modules to create a family of compact luminaires suitable for a wide range of lighting applications. With its slim line form, range of colour temperatures and improved thermal characteristics, OrionTM modules are designed to be used in a variety of directional lighting applications such as retail, track and architectural. Through integrating latest LED technology in conjunction with its StellarTM beam forming technology to provide an efficient, slim line module, Plessey provides customers with a new design freedom not accessible with alternative COB style modules. The outstanding thermal characteristics allow the heat sink and hence the overall luminaire to be reduced in size.

The OrionTM family of modules is offered in three colour temperatures: warm white, neutral white and cool white. The modules have a luminous efficiency of over 100 lumens/Watt, feature an improved light uniformity and excellent thermal performance.
