Scotland’s Largest Social Housing Owner Installs AICO CO ALARMS

Jill Speirs and John HigginsNorth Lanarkshire Council, the largest local authority housing owner in Scotland, has begun a programme to replace its Carbon Monoxide (CO) alarms with Aico AudioLINK™ Ei208 Lithium battery powered CO alarms.

The Council, which is the fourth largest Scottish local authority, owns over 37,000 houses.  A forward thinking body, it was an early adopter of CO alarms, understanding the potential dangers a CO leak can bring to tenants.  As these alarms are coming to the end of their lives, the Council made the decision to switch to Aico Ei208 alarms for their superior build quality, ten year life and AudioLINK technology.

Aico’s multiple award winning AudioLINK technology allows for invaluable real time data to be extracted via the alarm’s sounder - all you need is an Aico AudioLINK enabled CO alarm, a tablet or smartphone and the free AudioLINK App. This data is converted into a simple to review and store Alarm Status Report, providing useful information such as any alarm activations – with details of when it occurred, if any background CO has been detected, battery life, alarm sensors status, number of times tested and removed.  The Report is created for the life of the Alarm, and is colour coded to identify the urgency of any issue.  As the information is generated in real time, should there be an issue then it can be dealt with there and then.

The Ei208 alarms benefit from a highly sophisticated electrochemical CO sensor and rigorous testing for the utmost reliability; each alarm is tested multiple times during manufacture, which includes a test in real CO gas to ensure accuracy.

North Lanarkshire Council is fitting the Ei208 CO alarms into kitchens and, for maximum safety, any rooms with a flue passing through.  3,500 properties will updated with the new alarms every year as part of an ongoing planned maintenance programme.

A wholly owned subsidiary of Ei Electronics, Aico are market leaders in residential fire and CO protection in the UK. All alarms are designed and built in Ireland specifically to meet the UK standards and regulations. With more mains powered domestic smoke alarms installed in the UK’s social housing than any other manufacturer, Aico are tried, tested and trusted.
