Ellis Hangs High Hopes On Pegasus

PegasusEllis has launched Pegasus – a modular cable hanging system that is stronger, lighter and, because it is has been designed to be made to order, even more flexible than any other solution currently available.

Consisting of an aluminium spine supporting any number and combination of plastic cable hangers, Ellis’ managing director, Richard Shaw, says that Pegasus “brings hanger systems for the railway industry bang up-to-date.”

“Traditionally cable hanging systems have been anything but convenient,” he continued. “They have come in set sizes and configurations; have weighed so much they needed at least two people to install them; and because they have been manufactured from galvanised steel they are subject to corrosion. And those are only the major problems.”

“Our intention was to deliver a new design that, at the very least, ironed out all of these flaws. And after two-years in development, I’m confident that our re-invention of the hanger system means we have a new product on our hands that will quickly become one of our most successful.”

Pegasus is based upon a rigid extruded spine that has been carefully designed using
a combination of FEA and physical testing to ensure the strongest possible backbone. And because it is manufactured from a tempered engineering grade of corrosion resistant aluminium it is light enough to be installed by just one person.

Its plastic hangers, which are initially available in four varieties, can accommodate cables of all types and are made from an LUL 1-085 approved.special high strength low smoke and fume zero halogen polymer.

Other benefits include its:
•         Corrosion free nature as a result of there being no bimetallic contact and the Aluminium spine being fully enclosed to protect against the corrosive effects of brake dust
•         Curved saddle shape on all hangers that prevents cable damage caused by sharp edge contact
•         Modular design that allows assembly with any number of hangers in any combination, giving designers the ability to produce the cable layout they want.  Ellis will even produce CAD files on request to allow for the production of accurate drawings.

“We’ve earned a reputation in recent times of being the only manufacturer capable of delivering brand new solutions that meet project specific requirements,” continued Richard. “But now we’ve gone even further by creating what I can only describe as a standard bespoke product range. It really does need to be seen to be believed.”
