Distributors Invited to Free Cable Regulation Seminar

A free technical seminar specifically designed to provide specialist cable distributors with information on current and future regulatory requirements and how to satisfy these will take place on Thursday 13th December at BASEC’s training room at Presley House, Milton Keynes.

Organised by the ACI and BASEC the event, which will run from 10.30am to 2.30pm, is supported by the Department of Business Innovation and Skills (BIS), the Health and Safety Executive and Trading Standards.

The seminar is designed to ensure distributors operating outside of trade associations are given an opportunity to be fully conversant with regulations that apply to the importation of cable, the responsibilities of importers and distributors, how to meet UK cable standards and the consequences for not adhering to the regulations/law.

The event follows a number of incidents recently where distributors have appeared unknowingly to supply cable for projects which has failed to meet necessary specification and standards. The ACI continues to communicate these problems and educate the market where such instances arise.

Delegates will be able to find out more about the roles of various parties in checking cable distribution, the importance of using approved cable, an overview of the requirements of standards and technical aspects, the Low Voltage Directive (LVD), CE marking, the forthcoming Construction Products Regulation (CPR) and Regulatory checks.

All attendees will receive a summary of the technical information presented and a maximum of two persons per company can be accommodated. Further information will be circulated to registered attendees.

Peter Smeeth, spokesperson for the ACI said: “We believe that this will prove to be a popular event and several companies have already registered. Unsafe, non-compliant cable is causing the biggest issue in the UK cable supply chain and as Mr Fallon MP highlighted in the Westminster debate on 30th October many distributors are unaware of their responsibilities. We want to ensure the distributors know their responsibilities.”

Delegates are asked to register attendance by Friday 30th November and email Sheila Chantry at BASEC: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. Further information can be found on the ACI website.
