Integrated solutions and prefabricated systems are the way forward in power and data provision, according to Chris Scott, product manager at leading cable management manufacturer Marshall-Tufflex.
“Completing projects on time and to budget are non-negotiable aspects of any construction scheme,” said Mr Scott. “Fail to comply with either and the consequences, financially, can be stiff. That’s why we believe that looking at power and data provision at a really early stage in the project and then considering how prefabricated systems can facilitate easier, quicker and more cost-effective installation really is the way forward.
“Over the last few years Marshall-Tufflex has been working hard to develop a comprehensive portfolio of products and systems all designed not only to do the best job possible, but also to make life easier for electrical engineers, contractors and, ultimately, end users. The end result is the ability to offer a service that is solutions based rather than solely product related,” added Mr Scott.
But what does this mean in practice? “We advocate looking at each project as a blank canvas and work with electrical consulting engineers to explore different power delivery solutions in order to come up with the perfect bespoke solution,” said Mr Scott. “This may include our unique MT32 prefabricated wiring system, PowerPoles for ‘island’ locations or our unique and distinctive all-curved profile Odyssey trunking system. Many of our trunking profiles are Cat 6 compliant, so we are also well-placed to advise on data provision.
“MT32 is a really exciting prospect, especially for consulting engineers working on buildings with common footprints such as hotels and hospitals where MT32 Home Runs and Room Kits can be designed and pre-built for time-effective and simple connection on site. However, it may not always be necessary to use an MT32 Prefabricated Wiring system throughout an installation. For the traditionalists who prefer to hard wire or where an assessment shows that an entire MT32 system would not be practical, it is still possible to make use of MT32 technology by using prefabricated Home Runs, which are designed to meet individual project requirements but assembled in our factories, ready for instant on-site connection.
“Another advantage of MT32 is that it also allows for the power provision to be reconfigured at a later stage and MT32 is re-usable, making it an environmentally sound alternative to traditional hard wiring.
“And no longer is trunking solely a conduit for power and data supplies. With the launch of our Bio Trunking Solutions range cable management has an important new function as an antimicrobial building product effective against infections such as MRSA, pneumonia and salmonella. This additional function makes it perfect for applications where cross-infection is an issue, for example in hospitals, nursing and care homes and all manner of healthcare-related facilities.
“Marshall-Tufflex cable management and MT32 prefabricated wiring systems can be utilised throughout a building, from top to bottom, delivering the many benefits of a uniform, integrated solution from one supplier. However, planning and early involvement in projects is key if the best results are to be gained,” added Mr Scott.
